I've finally gotten around to digitizing this Hi-8 video and posting it! This was one of my first Hurricane intercept road trips, and it came on the heels on my Hurricane Dennis chase a month earlier. Hurricane Floyd started as a tropical wave which moved off the coast of Africa on September 2nd. At peak intensity, Hurricane Floyd was a very dangerous Category Four hurricane, just shy of Category Five status as he blew through the Bahamas.

Floyd's much anticipated turn to the northwest and north occurred just east of Florida, and Hurricane Floyd eventually made land fall near Cape Fear, NC early on the morning of September 16th, 1999. I intercepted this storm near Myrtle Beach, SC...the town of Conway to be exact. Around 2am the hurricane made it's closest approach to my area, and at that time the center of circulation was just off shore of the Myrtle Beach area.
