Professor Mark Harvey, Moorhead environmental historian and Chair of the History, Philosophy, and Religious Studies Department at NDSU, delivers an Earth Day 2021 lecture about the lives and legacy of Olaus and Adolph Murie.

Brothers Olaus and Adolph Murie were born and raised in Moorhead, Minnesota, and their coming of age in the early 1900s coincided with a growing national focus on science and nature. From the 1910s to the 1970s, they conducted foundational field research on wildlife behavior and dynamics, contributing immensely to our current ecological understanding of the natural world. Their expertise as wildlife biologists also enabled them to play crucial roles in the protection of national parks, national wildlife refuges, and federally protected wilderness areas.

This lecture is presented by the Historical and Cultural Society of Clay County. It was recorded on April 22, 2021.
