First performance of the Warren-Dubin classic "Lulu's Back in Town," which Fats Waller made into a hit later that year. Broadway Gondolier is hard to see except on TMC now and then, but it's a fine Powell-Blondell comedy from their peak period. It's also one of the first instance of an integrated ensemble on film, predating "Hollywood Hotel," which is usually given credit for it, by a couple of years, and predated only by "Twenty Million Sweethearts," which also featured star Dick Powell and the Mills Brothers.
