On 6 March 2024, the Popocatépetl volcano, the Mexican most active volcano increased its ash and gas emissions, posing a threat to Mexico City. The instruments on board Sentinel-2 and Landsat 8 provide different spectral bands, including the thermal bands from Landsat 8, which are valuable for observing volcanoes. The radar data from Sentinel-1 can monitor various phenomena such as lava flows and earthquakes. In addition, the atmospheric sensors on Sentinel-5P detect gases and aerosols produced by eruptions and assess their impact on the environment.
