On today's show, I discuss South Carolina Women's Basketball making the cut for nation's top point guard.

The South Carolina Women's basketball team took a step forward with one of the nation's top recruits over the weekend. Five-star point guard Jaloni Cambridge, who ranks as ESPN's number 3 overall recruit for the Class of 2024, listed the Gamecocks are one of her top seven schools. The other six are reigning national champion LSU, Baylor, Georgia, Ohio State, Florida, and Louisville.

Jaloni averaged 28 points, 8 rebounds, 4 steals, and 4 assists per game as a junior. She's listed as 5-foot-6, has won three straight Tennessee Miss Basketball Awards and was also named the Gatorade Tennessee Girls Basketball Player of the Year for 2022-23. She won gold medals in the 2022 FIBA U17 World Cup and 2021 FIBA Americas U16 Championship.

She'll enter her senior season as one of the top 2024 recruits on South Carolina's board. The Gamecocks don't have any verbal commits in this cycle but remain involved with a number of top players, including three of the top six in ESPN rankings. Cambridge officially visited South Carolina in January. She hasn't publicly announced a timeline for her decision.

In my opinion, Jaloni is more of a shooting guard than a point guard. Let's call her a shoot first point guard in the vein of Milaysia Fulwiley or Destiny Henderson. She's explosive. She's aggressive. She's a dog on the court. She can hit the three at a high rate. Her mid-range jump shot is sweet.

Some things to watch in her recruitment, her sister transferred to Ohio State and Jaloni listed Ohio State in the top 7. In my opinion, it's going to come down to South Carolina, LSU, and Ohio State. LSU signed the number 1 raked point guard in the 2023 class Mikaylah Williams and South Carolina signed the number 3 ranked point guard in the 2023 class, Talaysia Cooper number 4 ranked in the 2022 class, and finally Raven Johnson number 1 ranked in the 2021 class. Coach Dawn Staley has a legacy of getting highly rated, dynamic point guards and Jaloni would add to that legacy. This recruitment will go on for several months with her committing in November or December. We are all waiting!
