ArcheAge Environment Trailer

As I mentioned before, I wanted to release the earlier video in 1440p, but couldn't because of my video editor. I'm trying a new video editor out, so I was able to bump up the resolution for the "trailer"!

However, since most of my video shots were slow pans, the bitrate boost for regular 1440p doesn't really improve the quality that much overall. The fast moving portions of the trailer have the best improvement.

Now, I also mentioned before that while upgrading my graphics card allowed me to get higher frames on ArcheAge, I was still getting big dips in busy areas. To combat that, I was using NVENC (the GPU encoder) for the OBS recording. It had a far smaller hit on my performance, but the quality was pretty poor compared to x264 (the CPU encoder).

So after a bit of fiddling around, I got Intel QuickSync set up on my OBS. From what I read, there's a core dedicated specifically for video processing on modern Intel CPUs and this is what QuickSync uses for encoding. It was a big improvement all around, huge quality boost from NVENC with almost 0 performance impact in exchange.

That said, I am getting a lot more output errors than usual, but I think that's just because I haven't found a good sweet spot for my new settings yet. I'd still recommend looking into QuickSync if you're wanting to make high quality local recordings on OBS.
