In this video, we’re going to cover how to measure a cane for the correct height for a user.

There are three easy options you can choose from, to measure your cane for the correct height.

The first and best option is to measure the size of your existing cane, starting from the lowest part of the handle, where you hold the cane, measuring down to the bottom of the tip

Round up to the nearest half inch.

The second option is to have the user put on their walking shoes and stand naturally upright, letting the arms fall to the sides with a normal, relaxed bend at the elbows.

For the second option, you will need another person to help you measure.

Using a tape measure or yard stick, measure the distance from their wrist joint, or bottom crease at the wrist, down to the floor.

For accurate length, the second person must read the measurement, rounding up to the nearest half inch, to prevent the user's wrist from moving.

The third option is when you do not have the cane user or cane available.

Simply convert their height to inches and divide it in half.

We recommend rounding up to the nearest half inch.

Although this works for most cane users, it’s not always exact.
