Hi Everyone, today's video is on word Classes. We use words to make communication and these words are divided into different classes depending on their form, function or say behaviour in a sentence.
In today's video, I am going to discuss
1. What's mean by words?
2. Structure of words
3. Word Classes
:Open and Closed class words
4. Difference between open and closed class words.
🔴 Word :A proper meaning combination of letters is called.
For example : cat, dog, act, bucket, bird, kitchen etc. Are called words because these letters are arranged in a proper, meaningful way.
But tca, ogd, cta, irdb, enktchin aren't called words because they have no meaning.
🔴structure of words
There are three components in structure of words
1. Prefix 2.Root word 3. Suffix
🔷 Prefix : A group of letters which we add at the beginning of a root word.
For example : pre -, Anti-, Super - etc
🔷Root word : A word that can't be broken down further.
For example : Dress, School, kitchen, plan etc.
🔷Suffix : A word of letters which we add at the end of the root word.
For example : - able, - ful, - ness, - less, - ing etc.
🔴Word Classes
Words are divided into different classes .
1. Parts of Speech (Noun, Verb, Adjective, Adverb, Pronoun, Preposition, Conjunction, Interjection, Demonstrative, Quantifiers)
2. Open class and closed class words
🔴Open Class Words : (Noun, Adjective, Verb, Adverb)
These words are called open class words because we can coin new words to add to them. They don’t have fix membership.
For example :-
Look at her beauty. (Noun)
The beautiful lady in a red saree is my mother. (Adjective)
I beautify my life by reading books. (Verb)
I love to fill my room with beautifully crafted wall paintings. (Adverb)
🔴Closed Class Words : (Pronoun, Preposition, Conjunction, Interjection, Quantifiers ,Demonstratives)
The closed class words have fix membership. They are not ready to change their class or parts of Speech.
For Example :-
I, you, He, She, It,They - Pronoun
In, On, Above, out, under etc. - Preposition
And, but, or, so,after, as soon as etc - Conjunction
Alas, hurray, Eww, Bravo etc. - Interjection
This, That, These, Those, Many, Much etc. – Determiner.
