Dennis travels to Woodland Park and Cripple Creek, CO for Cruise Above the Clouds. At 8500 feet elevation it's the highest show we've done, and hundreds of cars still make the climb, including a Forward Control Jeep, a 2nd Gen Corvair, a Plymouth Fury, and a '32 Roadster. Dennis got a little light headed so close to Pike's Peak, but it's probably just the cools cars.

Funky to begin with, this '57 Jeep FC has been made even funkier. Rare to see to begin with, you definitely don't see em chopped, shaved, suicided, flamed, and with a trick hydraulic setup for the bed that makes it a dump truck, had the tailgate not been molded in. Really it's just to show off everything done underneath as well. The attention to detail is amazing. From austere to a luxo-cruiser.
Far less boxy than the first generation, the 2nd Gen Corvair has beautiful lines in a far more muscle-y appearance, with a hippy, aggressive stance. Fairly stock yet restored in the interior, it's all so very crisp. The engine less so. Powered by a Buick Rover engine bored and stroked to 300 cubic inches it's even meaner than it looks! 350 HP to the ground.

The '60 Plymouth Fury exemplifies the end of the wild body styles of the Exner era with the biggest fins they made. A very space-age design, these two-door hard tops had tons of visibility. You can see everything, and everything is gonna see you. And speaking of space-age, one of the most desirable and interesting dashes ever, with the "Flight Deck" instrument panel. Two-toned and with enough chrome to sink a ship, this one still floats down the road powered by a dual-quad, cross-ram engine. The Sonoramic Commando.

Always unique to their owner, the '32 Roadster made the climb to Cripple Creek. It screams in a traditional way with the Flathead V8, fade flames, big-littles and red accents on the whitewalls. Souped up, but not too carried away, it's a showcase for that 49' truck engine.
Rounding out the trip is a cherry '45 Ford truck, which they weren't making at the time because of the war. So they didn't make too many. One of about 12 left, this one came off an Army base in Idaho. Somewhat in keeping with the theme, this one is clad in a very clean and very green paint job with some subtle stripes to break it up. Stake side oak rails on the matching bed. A very fine restoration indeed, required for something so rare. And powered by a crate motor, she runs just as clean.

If you can make it up above the clouds, and still manage to breath, join the Cruise Above the Clouds to really take your breath away.
