Derek Meyer Galanis was born into the Galanis Crime Family, depriving him of a conventional life or a typical occupation aside from his involvement in learning and teaching martial arts. Between 2009 and 2011, DEREK GALANIS, alongside co-conspirators including Jason Galanis, John Galanis, Jared Galanis, Gary Hirst, Ymer Shahini, and Gavin Hamels, orchestrated a plot to deceive Gerova's shareholders and the general investing public. This scheme involved executing securities transactions involving Gerova stock, all with the intent of providing the co-conspirators with undisclosed monetary rewards amounting to millions of dollars. Importantly, these transactions lacked sufficient disclosure regarding Jason Galanis's role in orchestrating the actions and the gains reaped by him and his co-conspirators. Derek plead guilty
Derek entered a plea of guilt to a single charge of conspiring to commit securities fraud, an offense that could lead to a maximum imprisonment of five years and a maximum fine of either $250,000 or double the overall gain or loss resulting from the wrongdoing. Additionally, he pleaded guilty to a charge of securities fraud, which has the potential for a maximum imprisonment of 20 years and a maximum fine of either $5,000,000 or twice the gross gain or loss stemming from the offense.
