About This Album

We didn’t set out to make an album. Not at first. We set out to remember something we were never taught. To trace the old songs that echo through wind-scoured valleys and beneath pine needles. To sit in silence until the silence sang back. We wanted to find what the noise of modern life had buried. Sky Burial Hymns is what we unearthed.

This record began in the backwoods of northern Colorado, where time doesn’t move the same. We’d camp, hike, sleep beside old stones, bones, and bristlecone pines. I brought an acoustic out there once. Didn’t touch it for three days. On the fourth, I plucked one note and let it ring into the cold air. I swear the canyon answered.

That’s when I knew these weren’t songs in the traditional sense. They were rituals. Offerings. Markers left behind for whatever might come after. Not to sell, not to impress, not even to soothe—but to witness.

Sky Burial Hymns — What It Means
The title came to me in a dream, maybe even a visitation. Sky burials are an ancient practice—where the body is given not to the dirt, but to the sky. Offered to the birds, to the winds, to the great unseen. There’s no grave. There’s no permanence. There’s only release. That image stuck with me: the body as breath, lifted piece by piece into cloud and memory. We are all going that way, slowly. Every note on this album is a feather in that wind.

Each track on Sky Burial Hymns is a small rite—some personal, some collective, some ancient, some invented. We poured sweat, blood, ash, and hours into this thing. The sessions weren’t clean or clinical. We’d record late into the night, candles lit, feet bare, wind creeping through cracked windows. We used bones on drums. Field recordings from abandoned cabins. Static from antique radios. We let feedback live like a ghost between the chords.

We invited Colorado into the process. The mountains. The storms. The isolation. The resilience. The quiet. You’ll hear her all over this album, if you listen close.
