Brian Waters’s project investigates seasonal water insecurity in Freetown, Sierra Leone, focusing on the experiences of residents in informal settlements where roughly 1 million people lack access to municipal piped water. Their research aims to understand how water source choices fluctuate throughout the year, particularly during the dry season when reliance on informal water vendors increases. Building on five years of prior research, which mapped water sources and detailed the workings of informal water markets, this project will deepen insights into how communities navigate the challenges of water insecurity across different seasons.
