🔬 Why Does the Moon Turn Red?

A lunar eclipse happens when the Earth passes directly between the Sun and the Moon, casting its shadow on the lunar surface. During totality, sunlight is filtered and bent through Earth’s atmosphere. Shorter blue wavelengths are scattered away, while the longer red and orange wavelengths pass through and project onto the Moon. That’s why we see the haunting “Blood Moon.”

This eclipse belongs to Saros cycle 128, a repeating series of lunar eclipses that has been tracked for centuries.
