Australians have never been under greater government and police control than in Melbourne yet never has it been clearer that no one is in charge of this “incompetent shambles,” according to Sky News host Chris Kenny.

“Draconian rules, but no one in charge. That's some paradox,” Mr Kenny said.

Premier Daniel Andrews is set to front the COVID-19 Hotel Quarantine Inquiry on Friday to answer questions over the decision to hire a private security firm to guard the facilities as opposed to police or ADF personnel.

Mr Kenny said the public should not “get (its) hopes up for any answers” given the responses from senior government members and bureaucrats so far during the inquiry.

Health Minister Jenny Mikakos, Jobs Minister Martin Pakula, and Police Minister Lisa Neville along with the chief public servant in Victoria, the chief police commissioner, and the emergency management commissioner, have all fronted the inquiry.

All have so far both denied being involved in the decision making process and denied having knowledge as to whose department was responsible.

“No one admits to making the decision, no one admits to knowing who did,” Mr Kenny said.

“How can there be so much trauma caused by government, and so many rules put in place to repair it without anybody putting up their hand to own the decisions?

“It’s just a shambles, just an incompetent unbelievable, spineless, and unaccountable shambles.

“The finest comedy writers in the world would not dare script such absurdity, such a parody of government mismanagement.”
