Lohri is a popular winter Punjabi and Himachali[2] folk festival celebrated primarily in Northern India.[note 1] The significance and legends about the Lohri festival are many and these link the festival to the Punjab region.[4] It is believed by many that the festival marks the passing of the winter solstice. Lohri marks the end of winter, and is a traditional welcome of longer days and the sun's journey to the northern hemisphere by people in the northern region of the Indian subcontinent. It is observed the night before Maghi, also known as Makar Sankranti, and according to the solar part of the lunisolar Vikrami calendar and typically falls about the same date every year (13 January).

Lohri Festival- Lohri Festival is a well-known winter folk festival celebrated in Punjab. It is celebrated on 13 January every year. Sun's movement to the northern hemisphere is considered by Sikhs and Punjabi Hindus as auspicious and celebrates the Lohri festival which is celebrated on the previous night of Makar Sankranthi. Lohri festival considered the end of the winter.

Lohri the festival celebrated with a bonfire and people sing and dance around the fire, by throwing popcorn, gur, rewards, sugar-candies, and sesame seeds into the fire. Day after the Lohri considers as the beginning of the financial Newyear by the farmers.
