Jules Journey took advantage of a contested pace to win the $49,050 feature Thursday at Betfair Hollywood Park.

Ridden with patience by jockey David Flores, the 3-year-old Good Journey gelding took charge in the final sixteenth of a mile to defeat seven others either bred or sired in California.

Completing the 1 1/16 miles on turf in 1:42.53, Jules Journey paid $9, $4.80 and $4 for his second win in nine starts.

Out of the Flag Down mare Flag the Mint Down, Jules Journey is owned by Kieron and Mary DeLahunt and trainer Jim Cassidy. The $28,800 payday increased his earnings to $89,740.

Kept in the clear after breaking from the outside, Jules Journey sat several lengths off an early dispute by Candy's Sunrise, longshot Warren's Big Cat and Alley Hondro, who had defeated Jules Journey in a similar spot Nov. 16.

In winning for the second time in his last three outings, Jules Journey had 2 ¼ lengths on 7-1 shot Unusual Beam at the finish. Unusual Jazz, a 9-1 outsider, was a nose back in third after having the lead with a furlong to run.

A maiden winner over Cushion Track Nov. 30, Unusual Beam paid $8.20 and $5. He was ridden by Juan Hernandez, substituting for Garrett Gomez, who was off his mounts Thursday due to illness. The show price on Unusual Jazz was $5.20.

Completing the order of finish were Slammer Time, Our Boy Benjamin, Candy's Sunrise, Alley Hondro, the 5-2 favorite and Warren's Big Cat.
