Описание к видео Late season limits 12 15 20

Launched out of Santa Cruz early morning just after first light. Met with a new friend Marcus (CITYBOXER) who followed me out to help pull my crab pot and fish around. Just after the low tide the waves were starting to come past the harbor entrance. Not too large but the ones crashing against the rocks made it seem a bit deceiving. I quickly realized I forgot my phone in my truck and had to zip back to the parking lot and do it all again. Luckily we were only about 1/4 mile out of the entrance. Was nice though getting some good shots of the sunrise coming out of the harbor.

As soon as we got to my buoy Marcus tells me he was pretty sure he saw a boat jet off from the location right before we got there. We pull the pot and it is empty. My metal bait cage had the Lid broken off the zip ties but luckily it was still in the cage but no bait , no crabs. Pretty much the same story from my last 3 day soak. Seems like short soaks produce something but 3 day soaks produce nothing. Not sure if I am getting raided or not but it is starting to feel like it. I have 3-4 oz of lead on each door so they shouldn't be able to escape that easy.

With rockfish seasons closing in two weeks I thought this was a good time to try my new hand tied shrimp fly rig I made the night before. Not too hard to do and fun. I was inspired by a fellow Youtuber Eren Kandogan who posted a good video about how to tie your own sabiki rigs. (LINK AT THE BOTTOM)

Noticed a bit of bait signals around the 20 ft range with in a few minutes. I marked the spot and used my trolling motor to do circles around it. Grabbed my sabiki and got three jacksmelt in about 15 minutes. Since I had the live bait I switched to my other pole with a halibut rig and baited it up for lingcod. I drifted for maybe a hour bouncing around but no takers. With the need for the tug I grabbed my other rod with the shrimp flies and sent it down. The tug was what I wanted and its what I got! Picked up a pretty small rockfish I kept for crab bait lol. Drifted around for another 30 minutes and I got a gopher rockfish that was double the size (still not much). Seems this area has been producing small fish lately so we decided to move back up the coast about 3 miles.

I found the rocks with a new app I downloaded called Navionics Plus. Has nice relief shading for all rocky areas in the shallows that Google doesn't show. Set my self a nice drift starting in the 110 range and the bigger fish started to roll in. Three large size canary rockfish went in the box for a quick canary limit.

A few gophers and then a copper. Nearly every fish hit the lower shrimp fly. All except the one black rockfish of course. This guy hit like a ghost. No tug, just noticed the line loose its weight entirely and go slack. I reeled down as fast as I could and then it loaded up.

Swell was pretty big at first, in the 4-5 foot range but seemed like it calmed down in the afternoon. The wind never got past 5mph all day it seemed as well. Noticing the new patch on the bottom of my boat failed I decided to head a bit more towards harbor to try another rock pile about 2 miles south east. The bilge pump luckily did its job well and I had a few more good size rock fish on the line before the days end. Including the winner of the day, Vermillion. At the end of the day I went back to the jack smelt and then whole frozen squid to try my luck for a big ling but it never came. The last 3 rockfish all hit a frozen squid on a halibut rig.

Finished the day with my first solo limit! Plenty of crab bait to stuff the pots with now!
