Any polyp is a collection or a concretion of cells. They are like a small tumor or swelling which is visible like cauliflower to the naked eye. Most of us think that polyps are cancerous but only 5% of them are cancerous. Usually, people diagnose the presence of gallbladder polyp when then go for a general diagnosis of the gallbladder or gynecological diagnosis.



In Gallbladder polyps the size matters. If the size of the polyp is more than 1cm then surgical intervention is required. If the size of the polyp is between 0.5 cm to 1 cm then they have to keep a check and have to get an ultrasound report of the gallbladder every 6 months. If the person shows multiple polyps in the diagnosis, then too, surgery is recommended. Dr Maran says that if the size of the polyp is more than 1 cm, or there are multiple polyps, or there is a family history of cancer in the abdomen or there is a general fear, he recommends Gallbladder removal surgery.
