Clinique moisture surge 72h and 100h; Which one do I recommend and what is Thermus Thermophilus ferment?!
-These two products are completely different in formulation
-The two terms of “72h” and “100h” are not scientific numbers backed by science and I will review the product based on the formula
-Research indicates that glycerin, in both products, can remain in the skin layers for 72 hours, however, the hydration ability decreases over time
-100h is based on dimethicone which is a synthetic oily substance that is tolerated with most skins. 72h is based on glycerin!
-Both have good humectants such as hyaluronic acid, Aloe Vera and urea
-The main humectant in 72h is cica extract which is an anti-inflammatory and anti-redness agent (I have a whole post about it). 72h contains squalane and proteins which help retain skin moisture for a longer time
-The main moisturizing ingredients in 100h are Thermus Thermophilus and Lactobacillus ferments. The first one is shown to protect skin against free radicals formed at high temperature in presence of UV rays. There is not enough information and more works needs to be done. I have talked about the second ferment in Estée Lauder anti-aging serum! It might protect skin against UV rays, but more work need to be done to fully understand the mechanism
-Two different sizes of hyaluronic acid is used in 100h which help hydrate superficial layer and deeper layer of skin
-Green tea and trehalose are two anti oxidant and humectants in 100h
-I would prefer 72h over 100h because 100h contains red and yellow dye which can be irritating for some skins. 100h has birch extract which a fragrance agent
-I would recommend 72h to all skin types even oily and acne-prone (patch test first)
-Silica and silicones may help absorb excess sebum and reduce shine throughout the day
