I suggest headphones for this triple treat. It is fitting to post this today in memory of Teri Garr, who passed away yesterday (October 29, 2024) and among her many credits is that she had been a go-go girl on the tv show Shindig!
For the B-side of Gary Lewis And The Playboys' second single, "Count Me In," the song "Little Miss Go-Go" was chosen. The writing of it was credited to T. Lesslie, L. Russell and L.Y. Brown, who were Snuff Garrett, Leon Russell and Lou Brown (Jerry Lewis' music director). It was mostly a Leon composition. Leon did the arrangements and led the February 12, 1965 session, using Gary and his four original Playboys, with Hal Blaine added to play drums and Crickets member Sonny Curtis as guitarist.
Here are three different mixes of it, starting off with the remastered mono single from the 2008 Collector's Choice double disc The Complete Liberty Singles, mastered by Robert Vosgien with help from ace engineer Steve Hoffman as consultant. Second up is the stereo mix from the 1999 Taragon Records twofer cd This Diamond Ring/A Session With, remastered by Elliot Goshman in January 1999. It has the instrumentals on the left with Gary's vocals in the center and the Eligibles backing vocals on the right. The last version here is Larry Walsh's remastered mix from the 1990 EMI Legendary Masters Series, which notes that the master used for the single (LB-2028) was take 27, which is thirty seconds longer in this compilation, including the eleven second-long guitar solo at 1:29 in the song and a longer outro that were edited out of the single.
