Teaching the K9 to search an area: Training conditions become more complicated during the next lessons. The area of the sites to be searched increases to 420 square meters. The dog is taught to work off leash. The time between when the articles are placed and when the dog is sent to search for them is increased (from 5 to 30 minutes or more). As a result, the human scent on the articles becomes weaker. Finally, the search is conducted without prior sniffing of the trainer's or assistant's article. Then, corners of the pattern are set up without retrieval objects so the dog does not change direction only after it locates an article. To teach the dog to bark when it finds an article that it cannot carry to the trainer, the assistant leaves heavy articles at locations indicated by the trainer or camouflages articles with grass, leaves, and covers them with dirt (snow), coats, etc. The assistant hangs some articles on tree branches, bushes, or on a fence. During the first lessons the trainer points the dog towards these articles and gives the "voice" command to encourage the dog to bark and the rewards it for barking with "good dog" and a treat. Later the dog is taught to search independently for the articles and bark when they are found. To teach a dog to find a hidden human object, the assistant throws out articles for the search and then hides at the end of the search area. On the "search" command and hand signal, the dog first locates the articles and then finds the assistant. A dog is trained to search enclosed premises in the following manner. The assistant, standing near an enclosed area (shed, or other building) suddenly stimulates the dog and then runs inside the building where he carefully hides. The trainer and dog enter the building. The trainer gives the "search" command and with a hand signal sends the dog off to search. When the dog locates the subject, he is turned over to a second assistant. During subsequent lessons the assistant not only hides in the building, but also hides the articles the dog is supposed to search and find. The following basic errors are possible when teaching a dog to search an area and building. 1. The lesson always takes place in the same location. As a result, the dog becomes accustomed to conducting a search under specific conditions and works poorly under other conditions. 2. using the same location to train several dogs. In this case, the dog can become distracted by scents left earlier by other dogs (especially male dogs in response to the scent of females). 3. The consistent use of very similar articles, which will inhibit the dog when it locates objects that differ significantly from the usual ones.

* ATTENTION** the video description content is the wonderful and brilliant work of Mister Maxim Basyro. In 1996, from the youthful enthusiasm of dog training, followed by the practical experience of instructor-cynologist training of service dogs and the personnel learning of cynological units from the frontier troops, an impulse was created within Basyro to create the first cynological center – “Ronald” in St. Petersburg. It was within the Ronald Cynological Center that Basyro began working on creating programs and techniques that later became the theoretical framework for all the educational and training process within the larger organizational framework of the Federation of Military Canines. Now, 25 years after the first steps in the path of professional cynology – this framework has been expanded many times. In 2016, in St. Petersburg, the fifth center of the Federation was opened with a full range of specialized cynological services, and has already begun expanding significantly within the borders of the Leningrad region. The practical cynological services of the Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation is organically combined, as well as Maxim Basyro’s own methods for training both dogs and their handlers. With more than 25-years’ experience in the field of practical cynology, Basyro founded the Public Federation of Military Canines to best train dogs. https://www.masterdog-training.com
