Lord Krishna was the 8th child of Vasudev and Devaki.

He is the 8th avatar of Vishnu.

Krishna was born in a dungeon as his parents had been imprisoned by his maternal uncle, the tyrant king, Kamsa.

This was because of a divine prophecy that Devaki’s 8th child would kill him.

Kamsa killed 7 children born to Vasudev and Devaki.

When Krishna was born, Vasudev managed to transport the baby to Gokul across the Yamuna River.

He exchanged his son with a baby girl born to his friend, Nanda, and his wife, Yashoda.

When Kamsa tried to kill the infant, the baby girl turned into Goddess Durga and said that his killer was alive and well.

Krishna grew up herding cows in Gokul.

When he grew older, he fulfilled the prophecy by killing Kamsa, who symbolized the forces of evil.
