Salt Harmful Effects | Too much Salt bad for health
The amount of salt that you eat has a direct effect on your blood pressure. So the more salt you eat, the higher is your blood pressure.
The higher your blood pressure, the greater is the strain on your heart, arteries and kidneys and brain..
The extra blood pressure caused due to the intake of too much salt puts extra strain on the inside of the arteries.
This in turn forces the muscles of the artery wall to become stronger and thicker, which constricts the arteries more and the blood pressure gets further raised, which may ultimately cause the arteries to burst or becoming so narrow that they get clogged up easily, cutting the oxygen and nutrient supply to organs causing fatal damage.
The arteries of the heart also gets damaged due to the raised blood pressure caused by eating too much salt.
Initially it causes a slight reduction in the amount of blood reaching the heart and may lead to chest pain (angina).
If the extra salt in your diet continues then gradually it can cause arteries to either burst or clog completely and the deprivation of oxygen to the heart due to this condition will cause heart attack.
Thus keep your blood pressure in control by eating less salt.
The raised blood pressure caused by eating too much of salt can even damage the arteries leading to the brain.
Initially there can be a slight reduction in the amount of blood reaching the brain and may cause dementia.
In this condition the cells of the brain do not work as well as they should because there is now a scarcity of oxygen and nutrients reaching the brain.
And still if the salt intake is not reduced at this juncture, then the arteries may burst or get clogged causing stroke.
The work of the kidneys is to draw the extra water out of your blood through osmosis. This process uses a delicate balance of sodium and potassium to put the water across a wall of cells from the bloodstream into a collecting channel that leads to the bladder.
Too much of salt intake disturbs this delicate balance ,reducing the ability of your kidneys to remove the water.
End result is a high blood pressure due to the extra fluid and extra strain on the delicate blood vessels leading to the kidneys.
Gradually this strain can damage the kidneys and cause kidney failure..where the kidneys can no longer filter the blood.
The body slowly becomes poisoned by its own toxic products.
The recommended dose of salt per day for an adult is 6g,but we all eat much more than this cause most of the salt that we eat is hidden.
80% of the salt that we eat is present in processed foods like bread, biscuit etc.
Try to eat food with the lowest salt level.Initailly it would taste bland, but gradually you will adapt.
Do not season your food and salads with salt.
Do away with your salt shaker.
Avoid high salt sauces like soy sauce.
Use flavorings that can increase the taste of food, like lemon, ginger, peppr etc.
Buy low sodium versions easily available in the market.
Eat lots of fruit and vegetables as they are full of potassium and can thus increase the level of potassium in your body. And help the kidneys to work more efficiently and also lower your blood pressure to a healthy one.

Too much of salt causes high blood pressure which is responsible for approximately 62% of all strokes and 49% of all heart attacks.
