We have done this cabin both in the fall and spring now.... we took the ATV in the fall and hiked in this time...not sure we could pick one time over the other as a preference (EXCEPT I am not about post holing), but we did choose to stay two nights this 2nd time if that tells you anything. I think this will become an annual trip for us, both fall and spring. Each season offers a unique experience... we only have the summer season left to try...but we prefer the path less traveled.
