I used acetate (for baking), also known as "cake collars", https://amzn.to/361U6Hq to apply the buttercream to the cake with. You can also use wax paper, like I did for the black and white cake. The pros and cons of wax paper is that it has a smoother finish but is more flimsy and difficult to apply to a cake. Acetate is easier to apply to a cake but has a more textured finish than the wax paper.
For the highlighting, I used Rose Gold "sterling dust" from the Sugar Art store.
I used "dusty rose" Americolor gel food coloring to color the buttercream.
