L'Homme Idéal Extrême by Guerlain flew under the radar for me for quite some time. Having always been skeptical of the L'Homme Idéal line, a line I do consider entry level when compared to other fragrances from the house, I took a chance and was not disappointed. Thierry Wasser worked wonders in the fragrance. The line is renown for its use of tonka, tobacco and "cherry" but what many don't realize is that there is no "cherry", rather a playful use of rose derivates. Said "cherry" note sours and becomes darker in L'Homme Idéal Extrême, ripening into a zestier "plum" note. Together with dark and bitter leather, it creates a more austere, mature and elegant blend which can become quite addictive.
