Dr. Shamell Bell is a mother, dancer/choreographer, educator, documentary filmmaker, community organizer, and "Visionary Instigator" of Street Dance Activism and The Global Dance Meditation for Black Liberation. Dr. Bell is currently a Lecturer of Somatic Practices and Global Performance at Harvard University and Lecturer of African and African American Studies at Dartmouth College. Her work on what she calls, "street dance activism" situates street dance as grassroots political action from her perspectives as a scholar, dancer, and choreographer. In the Fall of 2020, Dr. Bell brought her street dance activism to Nashville, TN, where local dancers performer her choreographed dances. Dr. Bell is an ambassador for the Movement for Black Lives and a member of Blackout for Human Rights.
