A recently passed bill in the U.S. House of Representatives, known as the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility Act or SAVE Act, is drawing significant attention from activists and voters alike.

The legislation, which passed with a 220 to 208 vote, mandates that individuals present documentary proof of citizenship in person at election offices before registering to vote in federal elections.

Acceptable documents include a birth certificate, a valid U.S. passport, a military ID with a record of service, or a naturalization certificate.

Notably, a driver's license would not suffice under the current bill.
