Mountain biking like all extreme sports isn’t without any risk, accidents and crashes happen to even the most experienced of riders. Carrying a first aid kit doesn’t add much weight to your pack, will give you peace of mind and in the event of a crash or injury is essential. Here Jess talks you through the different options that you should consider carrying when out on the trails.

First aid qualifications and courses are a worthwhile investment. Always seek professional medical advice in the event of an injury.

Whether you’re buying a ready made kit or building your own there are a few basics to consider. For shorter trail rides a lighter first aid kit will suffice but if you’re about to embark upon a multi-day wilderness adventure, you should consider taking a more comprehensive kit with you. In an emergency, jerseys and inner tubes can be useful, but there is no substitute for proper training and supplies. Don’t forget to pack it in a waterproof and robust bag and keep the kit accessible in your pack.
