What Are Square Waves? | The 60-Second Explanation Video

Описание к видео What Are Square Waves? | The 60-Second Explanation Video

Most of the waves break parallel to the shore. However, there is a rare phenomenon that occasionally takes place near the shore.

These are square waves or cross seas.

Square waves are the result of the intersection of two seas or swells. When two opposing swells collide, the checkered wave pattern emerges.

The most famous place in the world for watching square waves is Île de Ré (Isle of Rhé) in France.

But stay away from square waves. They're dangerous even for experienced surfers.

The reason why checkered waves are dangerous is because they feature several currents coming from all angles.

If you are trapped inside them, you may find it hard to swim away and then start feeling exhausted and eventually drown.
