To bear the suffering of others so they don’t have to is the greatest act of love we can commit. This is the commission of Jesus Christ. Spreading the gospel does not just mean going and telling others the joys of knowing Christ, it means taking on Christ so that others may witness that joy. Others may have the gratitude, not for us, but for our Lord and Savior.
When we bear the suffering of others, we are showing them that that Cross can be bared only by the strength of Jesus Christ. They then become supernaturally empowered to bear the Cross themselves, through the power of Christ.
We all take on different personas. We have different masks that we slip on, depending on who we are around, and we never let the world know who we really are, because we never know who we really are. But we will never find out who we truly are meant to be until we put on Christ.
(Romans 8:18-25) “For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us. For the creation waits with eager longing for the revealing of the sons of God. For the creation was subjected to futility, not willingly, but because of him who subjected it, in hope that the creation itself will be set free from its bondage to corruption and obtain the freedom of the glory of the children of God. For we know that the whole creation has been groaning together in the pains of childbirth until now. And not only the creation, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for adoption as sons, the redemption of our bodies. For in this hope we were saved. Now hope that is seen is not hope. For who hopes for what he sees? But if we hope for what we do not see, we wait for it with patience.”
(Colossians 3:12-17) “Put on then, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience, bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive. And above all these put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony. And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God. And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.”
