Global travel stocks inched higher this week on optimism that the Ukraine conflict may be coming to a close. But global uncertainty and higher fuel prices continue to weigh on valuations. Let’s take a look at the 12-month stock performance of the top global travel companies.
Over the past year, the NEXT All Travel Index is down 7%. That stock index includes 100 global travel companies, including airlines, hotel companies, gaming, technology, and cruise lines. The broader market SNP Index is up 16%. The Ground transportation segment is up 45% since last year as the global falloff in auto production drives higher rental rates. Most other travel sectors are down versus last year. Gaming and Cruise Lines are down the most, 25% and 18% respectively. That’s followed by online travel, airlines, and travel tech, all down about 17% in the past twelve months.
Here are the travel stocks that have done the best over the past year. At the top of the list is Avis Budget up 254%. Avis stock has soared due to the scarcity of rental cars. They’re followed by eDreams Odigeo up 71%, Choice Hotels up 34%, then @Embraer, @HiltonNewsroom, Apple Hospitality, and @viajavolaris.
And here are the stocks that have performed the worst over the past year: @LATAMAirlines_BR, Tuniu, Penn Gaming, Avianca, Trip Advisor, @SkyWestAirlines, and @trivago. All down over 45% since this time last year.
Currently, the world’s most valuable travel-related companies are Walt Disney with a market cap of 257 billion, followed by Boeing at 115 billion, then @airbnb, @airbus, Booking Holdings, Uber, and Marriott.
Other top market cap companies are Hilton, Las Vegas Sands, Expedia, Amadeus, Southwest, Air China, and Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines.
Now let’s take a look at the 12-month competitive share price performance of global airlines, hotels, online travel agents, travel technology companies, and more. Here’s our full report on each company’s relative performance.
