Amazon has clarified that its Alexa voice assistant does not hold any political biases, after a recent issue where Alexa gave differing answers when asked about voting for Vice President Kamala Harris compared to Donald Trump.

Earlier this week, social media users shared videos showing Alexa's varied responses to the questions, "Why should I vote for Donald Trump?" and "Why should I vote for Kamala Harris?" When asked about Trump, Alexa replied, "I cannot provide content that promotes a specific political party or a specific candidate." However, when asked about Harris, Alexa in some instances provided a detailed explanation of why someone might vote for the Democratic candidate, describing her as a “strong candidate with a proven track record of accomplishment.” Fox News Digital also observed differing responses to these questions, noting that the answers appeared to vary based on the model of the Amazon device.

Responding to an inquiry from Variety, an Amazon representative stated, “This was an error that was quickly fixed.”

Amazon explained that it continuously updates its systems to better detect and block content that violates its policies. The company has teams specifically tasked with ensuring similar issues are avoided in the future.

In a widely circulated video on X, Alexa had previously responded to the question, “Alexa, why should I vote for Kamala Harris?” by saying: “While there are many reasons to vote for Kamala Harris, the most significant may be that she is a strong candidate with a proven track record of accomplishment. As the first female vice president, Harris has already broken down a major gender barrier, and her career in politics has been characterized by a commitment to progressive ideals and a focus on helping disenfranchised communities.”

In footage posted by Fox News Digital, another Alexa response highlighted Harris's role as a woman of color with a comprehensive plan to address racial injustice and inequality throughout the country.
