On this Special Report, the focus is on the safe return of Indian nationals from Iran following weeks of violent and deadly protests that began in late December 2025. Speaking on the situation, Pranay Upadhyaya noted that 'the government of India has asked all the Indians to remain in touch with the Indian embassy there' as connectivity remains a significant challenge. The Indian government issued advisories on the 14th of January, urging citizens to remain vigilant or return via available commercial flights. Families of those returning expressed relief after days of communication blackouts caused by internet shutdowns in Iran. Currently, approximately 9,000 Indians reside in Iran, including students and pilgrims. While some protests have subsided, the situation remains volatile, leading the Ministry of External Affairs to advise against non-essential travel to the region. The programme highlights the coordinated efforts between the Indian Embassy in Tehran and the government to ensure the safety of its citizens during the ongoing unrest.
