Governor Gavin Newsom's California Issued 600,000 driver's licenses (including CDL's) to Illegal Migrants over the last five years

The state policy – allowing illegals to get licenses - is now under fire after an illegal migrant from India killed three people in Florida after being issued a CDL from the Golden State.

The policy was enacted through Assembly Bill 60 in 2013 and expanded under Newsom's administration. The law allows non-citizens, regardless of immigration status, to apply for licenses.

Critics say this has led to unqualified drivers hitting the roads, who are not able to understand English-language road signs, safety regulations, or emergency alerts.

Federal law requires CDL holders to "read and speak the English language”

However, in California, tests can be given in multiple languages, meaning there's little or no enforcement of the English requirement, allowing illegal migrants to slip through.

Under the AB 60 program from 2020 to 2025.

About 500,000 to 600,000 AB 60 licenses were issued - building on the 1.2 million total AB 60 licenses handed out between 2015 through 2023.
