Turn Grass into a Garden Bed with Easy Sheet Mulching (No Dig)

In this video tutorial, I share the no-dig garden method, also known as sheet mulching, as an easy way to create a garden bed:

The first step involves cutting the grass in the area where the garden bed will be established, preferably mowing it on the lowest setting possible.

After mowing, a rope or garden hose is used to outline the desired shape of the garden bed, with adjustments made until satisfied.

Using a half-moon edger or shovel, a trench is created along the outlined shape, allowing for a defined border for the garden bed.

Sod is removed from the trench, and the edges are cleaned to ensure a uniform width.

Prior to laying cardboard, the ground is thoroughly wet to aid in decomposition.

Cardboard sheets, wetted for pliability, are laid over the prepped area to suppress grass and weeds, with overlapping and weighing down edges if needed.

Following the cardboard layer, mulch is added on top to a depth of around three to four inches.

For finishing touches, adjustments may be made to the edges, and additional steps like incorporating compost can be considered for soil enrichment.

Stepping stones can be added on top of the mulch for pathways, although a proper base was not laid in this demonstration.

The overall process provides a simple and effective approach to creating a garden bed using the no-dig method, allowing for immediate planting possibilities with minimal waiting time for decomposition.
