Executive Order 14276, officially titled "Restoring American Seafood Competitiveness," is a Presidential Document signed by President Donald J. Trump on April 17, 2025. The main goal of this Executive Order is to help the domestic fishing industry by addressing heavy Federal overregulation and the massive seafood trade deficit, which currently stands at over $20 billion. The order directs the Secretary of Commerce to immediately consider suspending or changing rules that overly burden America's commercial fishing, aquaculture, and fish processing industries. It also requires the creation of an America First Seafood Strategy to promote the production, sale, and export of U.S. fishery products. Critically, the policy focuses on combating illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing and addressing unfair trade practices used by foreign nations. Additionally, the Secretary of Commerce must review all existing marine national monuments and recommend which ones should be opened to commercial fishing.
