Welcome to another beer from the Rare Beer Club. On this episode I review Ancient Vortex from Strange Roots Experimental Ales out of Millvale & Gibsonia Pennsylvania. Unfortunately, this beer is another RBC beer that was lost in my basement and is from 2020. This is a Belgian style dark ale with raw cacao and candi sugar that was then aged on cacao beans. The beer comes in at 9.2% abv. The beer was somewhat active when I opened the bottle. It poured out a reddish brown cola color with a light tan head that hung around for a long time. On the nose I picked up some caramel, burnt sugar, dark fruits and a hint of cocoa powder. However, the scents were subtle. The mouthfeel was had some evaporative booziness to it but it had a light body. There were some nice notes of chocolate and dark fruits. Even though I probably should not have aged this beer for almost 5 years, it was still an enjoyable beer.
