My four friends and I embarked on the motorbike journeys for researching and studying ancient temples, several sites in Svay Leu district, Siem Reap province, Cambodia. The distance from Siem Reap city to the ancient temple, is approximately 80 km and takes time around two hours by motorbike through local rice field and farms. We create the click videos of the ancient temples and ancient sites to share with you, even though there is not a specific time yet to visit that place.
The name of the ancient site describe is likely by local villagers, Peung Chhat. Peung means, Rock Shelter or Overhanging Rock. It is commonly used in Cambodia, particularly around the Phnom Kulen mountain region, to describe natural sandstone monoliths that taper at the bottom, creating a protected space beneath the rock. Chhat means "umbrella" or "parasol." It refers to the physical shape of the massive rock monolith, which flares out at the top and narrows at the base, resembling a large stone umbrella.
Peung Chhat translates literally to Khmer language. "Umbrella Rock Shelter."
