The Thakar tribe of Maharashtra is an adivasi community known for their entertainment and storytelling skills through art, like the Chitrakathi paintings and many dance forms

Since the Thakars went from village to village entertaining people through their stories, they could easily mingle with local people. Hence, they were appointed by the Maratha Kings as their spies or informers

One such village of the Thakar Tribe - Lavhalwadi in Bhandardara, deep in the Sahyadri Hills, has preserved their dance forms like the Tipri dance, Dhol Dance, Phugdi Dance and Bohada or Masked Dance
