Jean Huré (1877-1930) was a French composer. This is to my knowledge his only work for piano and orchestra, though he wrote several other concertante works for other instruments - violin, cello and saxophone.

This work features an unusually large orchestra, consisting of 36 parts on 23 different instruments, several of which are making their first appearance on this channel with this piece (marked with *). In addition to the Piano, we have: Piccolo, 3 Flutes, 2 Oboes, Cor Anglais*, 2 Clarinets, Bass Clarinet*, 2 Bassoons, Contrabassoon*, 4 Horns, 3 Trumpets, 3 Trombones, Tuba*, Timpani, Triangle, Cymbals, Bass Drum, Harp*, Celesta*, and the usual 5 string parts. (Okay, I used a celesta in a recent arrangement by Masek, but that wasn't written for it.)
This work is complete in one movement, though there are distinct sections. The opening comes in strong and really makes use of that large orchestra. To me it sounds like an early Hollywood film score for a spy thriller - I half-expect James Bond to show up and shoot the cameraman. It then somewhat abruptly shifts in tone to a much softer mood which prevails for most of the remainder, though the orchestra does come in and remind you of its presence a few times.
This is the first time I've done a piece almost exclusively in Sibelius. While I've been using Sibelius for all of my releases lately, I usually start off in Mozart, then export to MuseScore for the polishing, and finally Sibelius for the final render. Mozart is unfortunately limited to 16 voices, which is sufficient for most pieces, but not for this one. So I started this in MuseScore, but found it to be rather hard to listen to, so instead I just brought it into Sibelius much earlier than I usually would and did the bulk of the work there. I'm still not crazy about its interface, but this was good practice. I'm not ready to abandon the 3-program pipeline I've been using, as Mozart is still the fastest way to get all the notes in by far, it's just too limited for larger works like this.
Disclaimer: Yes, it's synthesized. Obviously real musicians with real instruments would be vastly superior, but this simulated performance is better than nothing at all, which is what existed previously. My greatest wish is that these videos will inspire someone with the means to arrange a real performance and hopefully record and publish it so we can hear them in their full glory. If that someone is you, or you know of an existing recording of this, please let me know and I may add a link to this description.
