HOUSTON AND GALVESTON, TEXAS, UNITED STATES - Texas prepares for Tropical Storm Beryl which could grow into a Category 2 hurricane on Monday
Hurricane Beryl has made landfall near Matagorda, Tex., the National Hurricane Center said around 4 a.m. Central time on Monday. Beryl, which strengthened from a tropical storm to a Category 1 hurricane as it approached Texas, tore through parts of the Caribbean, where it killed at least 11 people, wrecked homes and tore down power lines.
Hurricane Beryl made landfall near Matagorda, Tex., the National Hurricane Center said shortly before 4 a.m. Central time. The update warned of a “dangerous storm surge” and sustained winds of up to 80 mph, with flash flooding expected.
