The Museum undertakes Bearing Witness trips to situations and countries around the world where we believe that there is a risk of mass atrocities or where we believe that mass atrocities have been committed.

Given the sheer scale of the devastation, the human consequences of the rise of the Islamic State and their actions in northern Iraq, we felt that we should help inform the American public, US policy makers, and the international community about the atrocities that have unfolded, really work on trying to ensure that the prevention of mass atrocities is a priority for governments around the world.

We can actually help to save lives.
