66-year-old owner Mr Poon established the stall 1983. It is a rare existing hawker stall that sells Sachima, freshly made by hand. Making Sachima takes him hours and heavy manual work.

Mr Poon kneads the dough, cuts them into strips, and deep fries them, then mixes them with sugar syrup. A tray of Sachima is compacted by hand. The result is a soft, sticky, and delicious pastry.

There is no successor in sight to take over Mr Poon’s business. Sadly, his retirement might mark the end of the old-school pastry that reminds many of their childhood days.

Sachima is a traditional Chinese snack made of fried dough crisps bound together with maltose and sugar syrup. It is said that Sachima originated from Manchurians in China in 1600s, and gave army soldiers the energy to defeat their enemy.
