Beacons are low-energy short-range Bluetooth transmitters that push notifications to mobile devices that have either the designated app for the location or a general-purpose app that is compatible with these devices. In English, that means that anyone that has a certain app on their phones will get a notification whenever they come near one of these things. That makes beacon technology really cool.

I want to use Bluetooth beacons for tourist attractions. Say you’re in a zoo. Users would be able to approach a habitat and learn more about the animal, see where it’s from, watch videos, share it to Facebook and Twitter, and then buy a panda t-shirt from the gift shop.
