A strong democracy depends on active, informed, and engaged citizens. Yet across India, civic participation remains limited, in part because civic learning is not consistently nurtured from an early age. Government schools—educating nearly 65% of India’s children offer a powerful opportunity to build civic awareness at scale.

Recognising this, Janaagraha partnered with the Kurukshetra district administration and the Department of Education in Haryana to introduce structured civic learning across government schools in all five educational blocks of the district through its Civic and Social Action Programme (CSAP). The programme follows a Train-the-Trainer model, equipping 106+ educators, including teachers, master trainers, and block resource persons, to integrate civic learning into classrooms and school life.

Through this initiative, students engage with real-world issues such as water conservation, waste management, climate change, drug abuse, and gender inequality. They participate in classroom discussions, school assemblies, community engagement activities, and local governance platforms such as Bal Sabhas, presenting their ideas and solutions directly to block and district officials. Aligned with the vision of NEP 2020, this documentary showcases how civic learning can become a core part of education— nurturing informed, active, and participative citizens, rather than treating citizenship as an add-on.
