Beneath the Angus MacDonald Bridge in the Halifax Harbor in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia lie the bones of an unknown number of boats and vessels, buried within a reclaimed land.

There are a few treasures to be found here, but the most interesting is an old 1911 trawler, literally entombed on the edge of the land, the waves lapping over her decks with each rising tide. This isn’t a simple tug boat, cast aside and forgotten. This hulk is the shipwreck of the 113 year old SS Daisy.

First, she was a survey ship for the British Royal Navy, before she became a minesweeper in the First World War. She saw action in the Zeebrugge and Ostend raids during the First World War, caught smugglers during Prohibition, and even survived the deadly 1929 Newfoundland Tsunami, before being buried here and mostly forgotten.

We’re exploring the JP Porter Marine Base, and going below deck on the remains of the SS Daisy.
