A talented dancer, Mordente honed his craft at the High School of Performing Arts and the American Ballet Theater School. During his Broadway career, he met and married Chita Rivera, with whom he had his daughter Lisa. After their divorce, Mordente married Jean Fraser in 1978, welcoming his second daughter, Adriana.
