Making and Using a Drop-point Carbide-tip Hollowing Tool

There is particular turning tool that has fascinated me for several years, but is too expensive for a cheapskate like me to buy. But this type of tool isn't that complicated, and can be made without too much in materials or tools (or skill). So I'm building this tool. And although I make a number of mistakes along the way, the tool ends up being usable...I just can't decide if it's better than other tools.
