Joint hypermobility in Children: how to approach, how to diagnose

In its firt part, the webinar summarizes general concepts of joint hypermobility and its relationships with growth and development. A broad classification of types of joint hypermobility in pediatric patients is presented in order to guide the audience in focusing on the most relevant ones for further investigations. Details on the differential diagnosis of conditions presenting joint hypermobility in children and on the diagnostic workflow, mostly focused on the clinical molecular laboratory, is also reported. The presentation ends with some pills on the management of children with joint hypermobility.

Dr Marco Castori is the Chief of the Division of Medical Genetics at the IRCCS-Casa Sollievo della Sofferenza Hospital in San Giovanni Rotondo (Foggia, Italy). He is a Clinical/Medical Geneticist and obtained his PhD with a project on the Ehlers-Danlos syndromes and related disorders. Joint hypermobility and hereditary connective tissue disorders are his major research topics. Additional research focuses include intellectual disability/multiple malformation syndromes and hereditary skin disorders. Marco Castori is a Member of the Medical and Scientific Board of the Ehlers-Danlos Society.
